I'm so very sorry for your loss and I understand, to an extent, how you're feeling. Everyone is different, which is why I didn't say "I know how you feel". How could I?? You didn't say how long she had been a family member, but it really doesn't matter. I can, however, promise you that the joy you had having her far outweighs what you're going through now. Time will be your guide. Your heart and instincts won't fail you...trust them. They didn't when you brought Portia in your life, did they? My condolences to you and yours. Be well........

Thank you so much for your lovely replies. It means such a lot to have people in different parts of the world be so caring and understanding. She was ten years old but very sick. My dad went to the vet and was told that she had a fast growing tumour that could rupture at any moment casuing her agony. He had to make the decision whether to bring her home and have another week with her, knowing that the tumour would eventually rupture, or have her put to sleep. He said it was the hardest decision he's ever had to make but the least selfish thing would be to have her put to sleep. She was such a great being anf I'm so happy to have had her in my life.
