Hi all,

I have just started a new journey in my life, living as a vegan.

I have a 9 month old healthy baby who already eats mainly vegan meals. I'd like her to be able to follow a vegan life like my own. I feel it's much cleaner and healthier.

Was wondering what other peoples thoughts are on this?

Is it healthy for her to be a vegan?

Kind Regards,

Rebecca :)

Certainly! I know many vegan kids. My nieces and nephews, while leaning towards vegan, have all been raised vegetarian since birth. I think there are so many advantages to raising kids vegan... less childhood illnesses, healthy eating habits that are likely to remain with them throughout their lives, more awareness over their environment. Vegan kids make the future look bright :)

However, something to keep in mind... vegan kids live a sort of culture separate from us (who had transitioned later in life). They are growing up as minorities. My 7 year old niece has always been scared of meat. She closes her eyes when she is in the grocery store (sometimes refusing to go in because the "meat is in there"). And she avoids going out to eat with certain family members who eat meat. She sees all people who eat meat as "bad". My other niece calls kids from school "cow killers". Never having experienced this a child, I do wonder what it must be like for them having that burden (I at leat grew up and lived most of my life in ignorant bliss of most things.. I would never raise my kids any other way, but it is very interesting to watch.

And one thing I forgot to mention....everyone who is vegan needs a b-12 supplement. Not having sufficient b-12 is the only danger of the vegan diet!
