What does everyone feed their babies after 1 year of Breastmilk other than Cow's Milk? Any advice? I have a 7 month old and i'm still nursing but want to stop by 1 year and need to know what i can use as a cow milk replacement.
I have a 7 month old and am wondering the same thing. Sorry to be of no help. I'm not exactly planning on weaning at a year but probably will want to supplement with something. I'm thinking homemade almond milk?
i nursed until 18months, since then i have been giving my son unsweetened organic soymilk. if it's organic you don't need to be zll concerned with gmo beans and all that. he has one 6 ounce bottle in the morning and one at night. he's 21 months now, and i will likely ease off around age 2. cow's milk doesn't really need to be replaced, as far as most of the reading i've been doing says. i just wanted to, to make sure his calcium and protein needs were being met. if they eat well and get all their goods from food that's fantastic, and milk isn't needed. i had to stop nursing because i was starting fertility drugs to try and have another baby. so far it hasn't worked and it breaks my heart that i could've continued for another 3 months with my boy. it was such a great thing, and i only did it in the morning and at night, so i really didn't feel super tied down. my advice to moms is to do it as long as your baby wants to. mine was really upset with me when i had to stop, but after the 14 days when i couldn't and i tried to do it again ...he was done. he felt like a big boy holding his bottle and didn't want me anymore. broke my heart:(
I breastfeed my son up to two years but now my son is obsessed with hemp milk. He can't get enough. I really don't see it being necessary for him at all nutritionally, but he loves it so, so much. It's a good product though and I feel he is getting some good nutrition because of it. And he gets so much soy from other sources (tofu, tempeh) that I am happy I don't have to also give him soy milk. Ideally I would prefer he drink a variety of milks...almond, oat, hazelnut, rice...but he always demands his hemp milk!
