Vegan Girl Seeking Cheese

Okay, help me out y'all!! I've been vegan for about a year and I can't seem to find a good vegan cheese. Dairy cheese was a cruel mistress but I still get cravings sometimes! :( If I could just find a substitute that melted well and tasted even kind of like cheese, I'd be sooooo happy! Thoughts? Suggestions? Words of kindness for my cheese-less soul?
Love and Sunshine,
Amanda
Daiya is my favorite for homemade pizzas. I love nutritional yeast on popcorn. I have also been seeing a lot of recipes on here that use cashew cheese, such as mac and chez and eggplant parmesan. I haven't tried any of them yet, but I plan to. I thought the same thing, that I couldn't give up cheese, and the substitutes are yucky, but it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be to give it up, and over time the substitutes taste better and better! I know you are vegan so I'm sure you already know most of this...Good luck!
I'm with Jane on Daiya. If you liked stinky cheese before you were vegan, I also recommend Dr. Cow. It is delish!
Thank you! It's on the list :)
Your best bet for something that melts well is Follow Your Heart vegan mozzarella. It's pretty good cold too. Amy's does a great frozen vegan mac and cheese. They make many different kinds of mac and cheese. I believe they only have the one kind that is vegan. With anything that is Amy's, you can look at the ingredients list, and it will say vegan if it is. Candle 79 has a frozen vegan mac and cheese that is amazing. I actually try not to eat these frozen mac and cheese dinners too often, because they are really not that good for you. The best frozen vegan pizza is Amy's rice crust with spinach. Just like with the Follow Your Heart mozzarella, you have to put it under the broiler for about 2 minutes after it has baked. Watch closely though, or it will burn. I also add nutritional yeast to anything that I want to make "cheesy".
By the way, the Follow Your Heart mozzarella comes in a block, so I slice it thin. If you don't wrap what's left up real tight in plastic wrap and put it in a sealed container, it will not last long at all. It's still the best. I do not really care for Daiya on it's own. It's okay when used in some recipes.
