I am trying to do some research on "Unschooling" ( a natural/radical way of homeschooling). I found a pretty good author Dayna Martin. I was just curious if any of you "unschool" your children? If so, can you tell me about your experiences with it?? Any info you have on it as well :o) Thanks

I don't personally "unschool" but I looked into it and read up on it heavily. My kids go to a charter Montessori, which one of the methods I think is as close to unschooling as it gets in a "school" setting. It is truly amazing how much energy and passion kids have when they are allowed to explore whatever interests them. My daughters' school builds lessons into everything, so they are doing math while baking, learning about other cultures while working on their school farm, etc. I feel like my kids love to learn, which is WAY more important to me than their test score could ever be (but they do test just fine in the school-district mandated tests they have to do). They also question and research and go and get information rather than just waiting for someone to tell them "the answer".
My amazing friend Talon just blogged about his experiences unschooling his son - www.1dad1kid.com. It has been awe-inspiring to see how far his son has come! I know I read some great books on the subject too, but can't think of any title just now! Hope this helps a bit, though!

Dr. McREADY is dead but it is important for psychiatric survivors to un-learn their involuntary training. NOT taking the meds is the most important turning point, but we have been trained to be obedient to medical orders, and we need independance training, not computer games with chat. "DECLARE independence! don't let them do that to you!"
