I'm a dance major..I dance, do yoga, run, etc 5-6 days a week...along with working 35 hours at my job to support myself. I feel like I am falling apart. I have been without meat for four years and have been a vegan for a year of this. My teacher has had four conversations with me about my decline of strength, endurance, mental clarity, etc. So much so that yesterday she has taken me off of her list for technique classes until she says I get better. I have to admit, I feel like I am falling apart. I know the past two months have been extra rough on my diet due to outside sources but I've been good up until that point. I have NO energy. I sit down and immediately fall asleep and for hours...I sleep well at night too! I don't know what to do. Everybody thinks I need to amp up my lean meat intake and quit my vegan ways, "they are killing you." I don't know what to do. I love dance, I can't imagine NOT being able to dance and getting taken out of for health is a wake up call. I need help. If anyone knows anything, OPEN EARS!!

Perhaps you're not eating enough calories for all the dance/exercise you're doing. We all need a certain amount, say between 1,200 - 2000 per day for just day to day activity but if you're doing all that extra dancing, perhaps you should look at a more athletic calorie count?? I'm not sure what that would be but you could look into it. So for the next month maybe increase the amount of grains, veggies, greens and fruit you're eating and also eat more regularly. Keep it oil/sugar free if you want to but still increase the good stuff as that's where you'll get your energy.

Also, are you taking a daily B12? I wasn't but have been the last few weeks and I'm amazed at how much better I feel ... more alert and it was like the last piece of the puzzle for me. I just feel better altogether. Make sure you find one that is the b12 methylcobalamin not the other version.

Otherwise, have you thought of finding a natropath or similar that can help you meal plan and give advice? Find one that is vegan friendly and it might give you a bit of extra support.

Good luck!

Have you had your thyroid checked? I wonder if it is offkilter? I would head to the DR and get some blood tests done, just too see if you are low or lacking anything.

Dear Tigre Lily, Are you eating properly? Are you cooking from The Kind Diet? It sounds like you need more fats and proteins in your diet. I am telling you this as a nurse for 23 years. It is really important to increase your caloric intake, including fats and proteins, if you are an athlete - which, as a dancer, you are. Can you find a good vegan nutritionist near you? Please consult with one and get yourself on track to continue doing what you love - dancing and living a vegan lifestyle.
