so i'm 35 and went vegan 3 years ago. lately i really can't over how much my skin is aging! the lines around my mouth are getting bad, i have a line between my eyebrows and soft lines around my eyes. i wish i could say it's a part of life, and that i'm not vein....but clearly i'm having issues:) i use a natural/vegan skincare line called cocoon apothecary made in kitchener ontario. it feels amazing when i use it, but i looked into dr. mercola's line and wanted any advice i could get before i make a big purchase. funds are limited. i feel like i eat a pretty good diet, but maybe i'm lacking something that could help? again...any input would be greatly appreciated. my husband tells me i'm beautiful and it's all in my head, but when i look at my friends who don't put sunscreen on daily like myself and wear hats all summer, or eat as well as i do and they all seem to look younger it's a little frustrating. i did smoke for sometime (quit 9 years ago) so that might be partially responsible for the mouth lines and my momma as beautiful as she is didn't inherit the best aging skin.... again, might be contributing. anyway...blah blah blah...just looking for a little insight please!
Hi V Momma. I had the same problem when I first started out. Originally, my diet included lots of tofu, gluten (pasta, seitan sandwhiches, tabouli salad, vegetable sandwhiches, ect), occasional faux meats and brown rice, all with some vegetables. Even though I was eating "healthy" vegan food, I looked ROUGH. Lots of lines around my eyes, big bags under my eyes, and my complexion looked red and irritated. Since then I have switched to a diet that focuses on eating produce and beans with some nuts and seeds and my skin has recovered. I use recipes from Eat to Live and Eat for Health both by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Though, not all of his meals are soy and gluten free, I find I feel and look better when I stick to the recipes that are. I'm a 34 year old ex-smoker. As for skincare, I haven't tried Dr. Mercola's products, but I've recently switched from Alba botanica to the juice beauty stem cell line and I'm very happy with it. Hope this helps! Shannon
shannon, thanks so much for your input. i'm definitely going to check dr. joel fuhrman's books. i love reading as much as i can about food and nutrition. just gotta make sure i can put it all into practice:) i have a husband with celiac who enjoys his meat a few times a week, my vegetarian 12 year old son, and my 2 year old and i are the only solid vegans in the house. trying to accomodate us all is quite the challenge. always looking for a little help and insight anyone has to throw at me!
