Did a vegan diet help you get pregnant? I have no idea except to say that it was very easy (first try) both times to get pregnant despite being in my mid-to-late 30s. I'd been vegan for 7 years for my son and 9 years for my daughter.

• Did you ever hesitate about having a vegan pregnancy? How did you strengthen your resolve? Did you discover any facts or evidence that inspired you or gave you peace of mind? I never had one hesitation about havang a vegan pregnancy. Pul-eeze! I know it worked for my health (despite me generally being a person who is very nonchalant about health) - why would it not work for pregnancy. I did waffle on my intake of vitamins/minerals at times and never stuck with it very well, and occassionally my husband or midwife had to give me a kick in the pants but there was always a vegan way to obtain anything I needed.

• During your pregnancy, how did you deal with naysayers? Did anyone give you a hard time? I did not really ever deal with naysayers, strangely enough (I kinda wish I had some horror stories!). My mom and mom-in-law did ask me tentatively if I was concerned, but I just waved them off with a chuckle and a cheery "not at all!".

• How did you handle cravings for naughty foods? I certainly never craved non-vegan food and for the most part I wasn't much hungrier than usual either. If anything, I was more repulsed by meat and especially cheese due to their strong odor. I had cravings, like fruit for my son and ice for my daughter, but these could hardly be interpreted as unhealthy. I also found I harbored a dislike for sweets (which is really, really weird for me).

• How did you involve your partner in your pregnancy to make it more meaningful for both of you?
My husband is the reason I went vegan and is perhaps the passion behind this choice in general. So he did much in the way of research of obtaining vegan supplements and herbal/natural care recommendations (collodial clay baths for itchy skin!) from the midwives. He was very involved in both pregnancies, from attending each appt. to reminding me to take my omega 3s.
