I just came across this book review in the November issue of The Atlantic http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/11/slaughterhouse-rules/309113/. It looks like a tough but interesting book on the impact of industrialized slaughter on, not only the animals, but the workers who are part of the machine.
