Tomato-soup... sans tomatoes...

Since I've started cooking vegan recipies I've found a real love for soups - all kinds of different soups. However the well-known tomato-soup is still a favorite but it's presented a bit of a problem.
I usually buy ready-made tomato soup because I'm allergic to fresh and canned tomatoes (it's the acid in the juices) but they use chicken broth, so I want to start making my own.
Does anyone know if I can cook tomato-soup with puré or paste instead of fresh tomatoes? And do you have a recipe?

Thank you for any help :)

You could try mixing 24 oz. tomato paste with 3 cups vegetable broth. This is usually used as a base for vegetable soups, but I don't see why it can't stand alone as a tomato soup. If you need to thicken it up, you could add more tomato paste, or use a little cornstarch or instant potato flakes if you have them (just make sure they are not flavored with butter or milk!). Season it with whatever you like! You could use salt and pepper, onion powder, basil, garlic.
