Hi Have been veggie for quite some time and as I am not a fan of dairy anyway being a vegan has been very simple and I love it. However I have a question for anyone out there I understand why vegans dont eat eggs because of the cruelty to chickens however I have Chickens as pets does that mean I can eat their eggs? This is the only hard thing I have about being a vegan Idont miss anything else and the vegan substitutes are great but I dont like any of the egg substitutes and I do miss an egg or 2 every now and then....help?? thanks
My interpretation of being vegan means no animal products whatsoever consumed. The reasons for going vegan include not only less cruelty to animals, but a healthier diet & less negative impact on the environment. I would say you are "mostly vegan" others might say you are vegetarian if u eat eggs (at least you know where yours are coming from & how loved the chickens are) Although I recently went vegan, for years I considered myself vegetarian, but maybe once or twice a month have seafood. A relative questioned how I could be vegetarian but eat sea creatures. She was right, so I then referred to myself as "mostly vegetarian". Kathy Freston has used the term "veganish" & it seems to cover those who aren't as strict w/ their choices....does this help?
It does thank you. Eggs are the only animal product I consume and have never bought them.......Veganish sounds about right!! I dont even cook with eggs it is only 2 scrambled every now and then but I guess that is an excuse lol gotta cut them out completely to call myself a vegan .
I'd say that you are doing just fine by yourself and the planet if you are raising your own hens and using their eggs. I went vegan for my health because of my high cholesterol so eggs were off the menu for sure, but I continued to eat honey. I refer to myself as vegan to my friends because if they invite me over for a meal I'm not interested in eating a meal high in eggs of cheese, which is what people tend to fall back on when meat is not an option.
Should say eggs OR cheese, not eggs of cheese.
