Winter Veggies

Does anyone have any suggestions for a really good book/blog (whatever) on winter foods/recipes? I live in the midwest and I eat frozen stuff a lot and some canned things but I'd really like to eat some actual foods. There is a farmers market downtown I'm going to venture into but problem is even when I find the winter veggies I really don't know what to do with them.
this may sound a little picky but I'm really not into anything overly exotic. a big struggle of mine becoming vegetarian/vegan is that I like comfort foods... you know down home meal not so much mixing the savory and sweets and really out there stuff. I will definitely try things (I'm not at all afraid of trying new things :) ) but if I'm going to buy a book I'd like it to be full of stuff I would/can eat on a regular basis.
thanks for listening... I know it's kind of a specific request but I'm not having much luck just googling things :) so I have come to the experts!
I have the book, Vegan Holiday Kitchen, and I love it! Since the recipes are broken down by holiday, it uses that season's veggies. I make something from it at least once a week. They're pretty easy recipes and use basic ingredients, so nothing too out there in terms of what you need to buy or flavor combinations. My fav recipes are the fall/winter ones, which would be perfect for what you're looking for. Hope that gives you a good start!
Here's the link to the book on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Vegan-Holiday-Kitchen-Delicious-Occasions/dp/1402780052
thanks! I'll look into it :)
