Hey everyone,
I've been vegetarian for hers & tried going vegan once before but really had a problem with the cheese. I love cheese! Lol I already drink soy/rice milk so really just the cheese issue gets in my way.
Any advice? Can anyone recommend some good vegan cheeses that I can try?
Thanks
Joanna
Sorry typo lol meant to say been vegetarian for years
Hi Foodie_mtl-
I really liked to use Daiya brand vegan cheese when I cut cheese out from my diet.
Also, did you know that cheese is not necessarily vegetarian? Here is an interesting article about animal rennet: http://blog.fooducate.com/2011/04/05/10-things-to-know-about-rennet-its-in-your-cheese/
For me, it was a matter of just saying no to cheese and deciding to remove it from my diet for 2013. Maybe if you started with a smaller increment, perhaps 7 days without, you may realize it becomes easier over time. There are many other, healthier alternatives for you to snack on (:
Hope this helps!
I agree with Shay. The Daiya brand is the best I've found and most Publix stores either carry it or will if you request it. You can also message me for a really great Parmesan topping recipe. (I'm at work now and I don't have the recipe with me.) In Alicia's book, there's a really interesting section about WHY we are so attached to our cheese. It was enough to make me want to stay away from it forever! Good luck!
Hello Foodie_mtl! I know exactly what you mean, I have been vegetarian for a long time, but I could never give up the cheese. It's just so good. Today I bought Daiya cheese and it actually tastes very good. I'm going to try to give up cheese and go vegan for 30 days starting today.... I'll let you know how it goes :) Good luck to you!
