My sister isn't vegan but I've kept her informed on the dangers of dairy. I sent her the blog today from Dr. Barnard. She'd like information on what to transition her son to since she is currently feeding him a potato based formula. Is it ok to give him Rice Milk? She knows that she should stay away from the nut based milks for a while. I'd appreciate any information you can give me.

Vegan RD reccommended unsweetened vanilla hemp milk. I am tapering off on the breastfeeding with my 1 year old, and she has taken to it happily! :-)

There is no need for anything except water. By bringing a young one up on other flavors/sweet drinks, etc. you are setting them up for failure. I was appalled when babysitting my nieces once and the older one insisted the younger one would not drink plain water, it had to have a splash of juice or her favorite, Sprite. I said no way and they both had water the entire weekend with no more complaints. Kids eat and drink what you give them. My almost five year old has no desire for anything else except decaf iced or hot tea when we have tea parties. PS tell your sister to google lead in juice, my holistic pediatrician told me no juice when my daughter started to wean herself. Even organic juices show up on the list. Being a strict parent is also being a kind, loving parent.
