Hello this is my first post.

I am a major flirt and cheese is my guilty pleasure. However I am cutting back because it's bad 4 my skin and am lactose intolerant now and seeking vegan alternatives. Is there one for Parmesan cheese? Thank you.

Try using nutritional yeast. It doesn't have the same texture, but it's great on pasta etc. I used to love noodles with butter & parmesan -- last night I had them with vegan margarine, lots of nutritional yeast, a little salt, black pepper and a dash of cayenne.

(I've also seen vegan parmesan in Whole Foods Market, I think -- but i just buy nutritional yeast in bulk & keep it in a shaker.)

Thank you for your suggest. I will try that and look into Whole foods.

I make my own vegan Parmesan topping and I love it. It smells cheesy and it's super easy! Here's the recipe:

1/2 cup roasted walnuts
1/4 cup roasted cashews
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp ground dry mustard

Throw into a blender or food processor and pulse until thickened powder forms.

I don't like the vegan parmesan they sell at stores like whole foods. I make my own using a cup of walnuts, 1/2 cup of nutritional yeast, and some salt (to taste), pulsed in food processor until it seems the right texture It's a little more like that crumbly texture you get from that shaker of Kraft Parmesan than you get from plain nutritional yeast.

I can add my vote to Starflower's recipe - that's how I do it (although the garlic powder seems like a great idea Kind Britt ... next time I'll try it!)

I did initially use a vegan alternative from a store (I can't remember the name now) but it wasn't cheap - and when I looked at the recipe and saw walnuts, nutritional yeast and salt - and that's IT ... I thought - Huh! I can do that! I look forward to pasta so much now because I can sprinkle my vegan parma on it! Yummmmm ...

If you are interested in store bought, I really like Galaxy Nutritional Foods Vegan Parmesan (http://www.galaxyfoods.com/galaxy-products/vegan/vegan-topping/) it tastes great to me but I will say I think it's like $5 at the store (which is a bummer). I can usually find this in the vegetarian section at my local supermarkets and at my health food stores too. I know right now I don't have time to make my own with work and school so this vegan version is perfect for me. Good Luck :)
