Silk Soy Milk's "Great New Taste"

Hi all! Just a quick FYI heads up that when I went to buy my Organic Unsweetened Silk Soy Milk, "Great New Taste" was slapped on the side of the carton, and to me, it wasn't great at all. I loved the product and the new change adds a sort of a chemically taste to it, so if you like the "current" product, you may want to stock up if you still find it. I don't know if they're doing across the board changes to all of their products as this was the only one I buy.
Maybe this will be like "new" coke. lol
Totally agree. New taste is awful. Such a shame it was a great product. Can anyone recommend another brand which tastes like the old Organic Unsweetened Silk Soy Milk

I agree with Heather. Totally bummed about the changes and still not sure what they did to make the "great new taste," which is new but not great. Will most likely be buying more of Trader Joe's unsweetened soy milk or Whole Foods' 365 brand. Neither are as good as the original unsweetened Silk but definitely more natural tasting than the new version.
So glad to see we aren't the only ones! We've been drinking this product for years but we won't be drinking it in future. Bitter, chemical, overpowers tea and coffee. They're ruined it! I sent them an email about this and got the basic mindless boilerplate response. "We tested the new versions of Silk® Soymilk thoroughly and received strong consumer results, specifically related to the improvement over our prior formulas." You have your choices WhiteWave. I have mine! But I'll miss it.
Can anyone recommend a brand that has the thickness or richness of Silk? I'm also changing brands because of the new formula. But I miss the consistency of Silk.
I always preferred Trader Joe's Unsweetened Soy Milk as it was not quite as thick as Silk unsweetened - but I *used* to like Silk too. Now it will only be TJ's USM.

--- I sent this message to Silk on 3FEB2013: "I purchased 4 half gallons of Silk Unsweetened Soy Milk, I usually prefer Trader Joe's Unsweetened Soy Milk but Silk's used to be just as good albeit with a little bit thicker consistency. This time Silk's unsweetened soy milk had a funny taste. I read on the carton "New Great Taste!", and so I thought I would keep drinking it to see if I could like it - I could not. The more I drank it the worse it tasted. I returned 2 of the 4 for my money back. In all honesty I am flabbergasted that any of your taste testers would think the new flavor is in any way "Great". It is bitter and tastes like a petroleum distillate. To be perfectly frank, it tastes like ass. Kind regards,"

--- Silk's reply to me on 5FEB2013: "Thank you for your recent e-mail to Silk®. We appreciate the time you’ve taken to share your comments. We tested the new versions of Unsweet thoroughly and received strong consumer results, specifically related to the improvement over our prior formulas. While we've received positive feedback, we're sorry you're not completely satisfied with our new recipe changes. We value you as a consumer and hope we can help you find another Silk product to meet your needs. Although we regret that Silk® Unsweetened Soymilk did not meet your specific needs, we hope you give one of our many different products a try. We have mailed a check so your next purchase can be on us. Thanks again for contacting the Consumer Affairs Department. Sincerely, Alexis Whitfield Consumer Response Representative"
Hi everybody! I'm glad I wasn't alone on thinking Silk goofed.
After I posted my original note, I found several cartons at my grocer w/o the "new" label on them only to find they had already converted to the new taste (boo!). I'll try the TJ's.
Maybe if Silk's sales take a hit, they'll go back to what wasn't broken.
Thanks for the FB link, Fyer. I noticed this variation on their canned response to a complaint:
"sorry to hear you don't think it's an improvement. We actually just added a step to our preparation methods to bring out the freshest flavor, but the ingredients themselves didn't change."
I call BS on that.
