Silk Soy Milk's "Great New Taste"

Also just noticed this FB response: "The shelf stable version of the Unsweetened Organic did not change flavors." So, there's that. I'd never tried it but will now.
Hi, Kind Lifer Julie Swartout here. I was so excited to try the improved taste and I thaught that I would LOVE IT. The taste was not what I expected. I found it to be sweeter, it reminded me of a 'soy soda' without the fizz. When I checked the ingredients I found Cane Syrup. I would love it if they used another sweetener, preferably one that's gluten free. I expected the product to be so wonderful and healthy. But is it really?
I just got done ranting to Silk about this via their contact page. I had also called them as well. They did this same thing with Original several years ago prompting me to switch to Organic at their suggestion. The keep adding or increasing vanilla in all the flavors. Why? Is cow milk flavored with vanilla by dairies? Has anyone ever even seen vanilla flavored cow milk? Silk is obtuse. Good news though. Wal-mart now sells a store brand unflavored organic soy milk. It's forty cents cheaper than their price on Silk. I switched to this. It is quite good. I told Silk this. Everyone, please fill out the Silk contact page and/or call them: silk.com/contact-us
Thank you for the information about the Wal-Mart soy milk mogulskeer. Going to walmart will be a lot funner now. :-)
Thanks!
YUCKO!!!! I cannot believe it tastes so bad. Really disappointed!!!
New Silk unsweetened does have a terrible taste. I suggest everyone emailing the company and letting them know even if they do get a reply that it's been tested and well received. I can't make my 'mayo' and my vegan roux anymore with it because of the flavor and smell. Whole Foods is ok. Thanks for the T.J.'s tip.
I sooo agree with you guys. I didn't notice "Great new taste" on the carton when I bought my unsweetened soy milk and when I took a drink I almost vomited!!! I went to check the date on the carton to see if it was spoiled and that's when I saw the false claim "Great new taste". NOT! It is HORRIBLE!!! I will never buy this crap again. I am so disappointed. I loved the original unsweetened flavor and would buy at least 4 half gallon cartons a week. We drink tons of it in our home and used it in place of cows milk in cooking all the time as well. It worked great for making cream soups and even milk gravy. Could you imagine making cream of mushroom soup or biscuits and gravy with this yucky, sweet, vanillaesque stuff? What is the point of unsweetened with extra sweetener added? If I wanted sweet vanilla flavored soy milk I would buy the vanilla flavored style. I'm now in search of a new brand and have yet to find one I like. I saw the Walmart brand suggested in this thread and am trying it next. I'm hoping it is a suitable alternative. I bought 4 cartons of unsweetened the last time I purchased Silk. This was before I realized their change for the worse. Seeing how expensive it is and considering my aversion to wastefulness I hated the though of throwing it out. My 9 year old son disliked the new flavor as well but he'll eat/drink anything if you add chocolate syrup to it so I made chocolate milk out of the crap and he drank it. This will be our last Silk Soymilk purchase until/unless they switch back to the original unsweetened. There are less expensive chocolate and vanilla brands that I will buy from now on. My search continues for a suitable unsweetened. Bye bye Silk. You've lost a long time customer.
