We did a catered lunch at work today, it was vegan friendly (thanks to my amazingly awesome boss). Anyway, the subject came up and it has really got me wondering......
When people say …. “Oh I could never be vegan, it’s too expensive”…. WHAT??? I don’t think I even spend $50 a week on food for a family of 4! People around the table were shocked at this saying that they spend close to $200 a week. This makes me very confused!! I don’t really have a food budget but I know I am not spending anywhere near $200 a week! I am starting to wonder if I’m a cheapskate!! I guess I just wanted to throw this out there to see what everyone else spends on food, I struggle for what to say when people come at me with the cost aspects of being vegan.

I understand where you're coming from. I've gotten the same reactions. I noticed that our grocery bill went down even more when I started eating more macrobiotic. Some crucial items cost more money upfront, but in the long run I think being vegan is cheaper!

We definitely spend more on certain individual staples. ($5 for a bottle of Agave Nectar or a jar of Veganaise, for example.) But overall, our grocery bill has gone WAAAAY down. Plus, we're not eating out nearly as much as we use to. We use to be a McDonalds three-times-a-week couple. It adds up! I'm SO glad that's no longer a part of my life!
