Husband has flatulent

Two weeks ago my husband suddenly told me, while grocery shopping "I want to cut back greatly on meat and start eating more veggies and fruits". I was delighted, he has been carrying a lot of excess weight on his stomach region. So he picked out what he wanted and we started eating even more vegetables with meals. I've been slowly adding more fruits, grains, vegetables to what I eat for the past 2 years. He has been just the past 2 weeks of eating this way.
He suddenly has... a lot of gas, frequently. He isn't eating a lot of beans or anything but he is still eating processed meat & dairy. I don't eat those because they used to hurt my stomach, so I simply cut them out mostly.
Any suggestions for what I can do to help hubby ease his gas? And have other encountered this, is it common (to encounter gas when changing a diet)?
It is common to have gas when changing diets, especially since he's been eating more fruits and veggies. Animal products have no fiber, but fruits and veggies have tons of it, so when plant-based foods are added or increased, the fiber starts to clean out the body (which comes in the form of gas and more frequent bowel movements). After his body gets used to it, the gas should settle down back to normal. If he's having pains in his stomach, you might want to have him see a doctor or nutritionist, but if it's not hurting him then it's nothing to worry about.
Eat parsley and drink peppermint tea! It really does help.
