Its been 10 months since I began a vegan lifestyle. I've lost 45 pounds. I feel blessed to live in New England where I have many choices of locally grown foods. We even have a farmer who delivers our locally grown food order on a bike. LOVE THE INNOVATION. As for my body healing itself, still in the process. I feel hormonally speaking, it takes alittle longer to heal. Even though I feel 200 times better then when I began a plant based diet I know I have more healing to do. Alicia's book is an inspiration to me and this why. When I first began my plant based diet I searched local vegan groups. I went on an outing with a group of vegans to a farm sancuary. A few were welcoming by sharing valuable information but there were a few with what I call URGENT-passion. I understand wanting to shake people to wake them up to what is happening to our country's food supply, but saw this kind of ' you must do it this way' mentality doing more harm than good. Shutting doors to anyone that is curiously considering an interest in a vegan life style. Alicia's book kindly gives the information with links for continuous education on the subject. This welcomes not only the people who are eager to go vegan but gives the opportunity to individuals who don't. know. There is no reason why they should know unless their curiosity is nurtured not crushed. I work in cancer research I don't like to use the word vegan so I use plant based due to I'm taming my Urgent -passion as not to deminish anyone's interest. So kudos to Alicia's kind approach in putting out there information.

Hi there! Congrats on all the improvements and weight loss. I studied the diet for a while before committing myself, and I think it made it easier- planning ahead and knowing what is to be expected (as well as having a knowledge of what one can and cannot eat) made the transition so much less intimidating. If I may ask, what kind of cancer research do you do?

Very true, I believe my veganism commitment is deeper due to my research of a whole food- plant based diet. The last 7 years i've been working in pediatric oncology and GYN oncology. Now I'm working in the following, adult leukemia(s); effects of radiation therapy on many different cancers and effects of chemotherapy treatments on bone density in post menopausal women with newly diagnosed breast cancers.
