Hi All,
I'm a beginner Kind Lifer, and I am really positive about this lifestyle. What are your thoughts around quinoa, and how socially responsible is it to eat it if Bolivians (whom eat quinoa as a staple) can't afford it anymore due to global demand? Here is a link to the first article I read that alerted me to this:

I love quinoa, it is easy to prepare, versatile and nutritious, but I feel guilty everytime I eat it. What are your thoughts and opinions on this? Looking forward to sharing thoughts and ideas.

Just read the article and was shocked to hear. Thank you for alerting us. I love quinoa and the idea that my buying/eating it plus overall consumer demand are hurting those who grow and export it is disturbing. Perhaps at this point in time, quinoa is one of the latest "trends" for some - the latest "fad". I hope in time that prices will drop/even out so all will be able to afford it, especially in Bolivia. There seems to be many other factors involved in the quinoa situation aside from global demand raising the price - like kids wanting fast food instead of healthy food, etc. Wish I had an answer. I worry about healthy foods in general down the road, with the honeybee population disappearing and climate concerns that point to the probability that healthy foods will become unaffordable and scarce, leaving the middle and working classes with less options. It is a much broader topic. If I were an activist (the thought of which still intimidates me), I would join with others to try help the situation somehow. I guess it goes back to picking your battles and since there seem to be so many that each of us faces every day, you choose the one that speaks to you the most and follow your gut/heart and try to find a community that supports your vision for helping shift the tide. I'm not quite there yet, but I think about it so much more since I became a Vegan two-plus years ago. Take care. Maybe you can do something positive with those feelings of guilt. No sense in hurting yourself because you are trying to take care of yourself/your health.
