Sooooo....I've never been on birth control, always heard horror stories and stayed away. Also, I had no use for it BUT the times har changed as I recently got engaged! Exciting buuuut now I actually need birth control...of some form. I would like to stick to something more natural but my period is so irregular, 35-40 days in between, that the counting method is of no use. Anyone have any suggestions?? I would be happy to hear them!!
I had, and really liked, a copper IUD. No hormones, nothing to remember, easy. It made my cramps a tad worse for the first couple of months, but otherwise no side effects. They are good for 10 years. I just got mine taken out (after the 10 years) and am taking a little break, but will most likely get another, it was by far my favorite method that I have used. I never liked the pill or other hormonal methods - made me feel icky and made my migraines worse. The IUD seemed the most natural to me - except for the counting method but that doesn't work for me either.
Google natural family planning, several options including taking your temperature every morning and checking for CM. On unsafe days use either condoms or something on condom aisle called VPC (or something like that). They are little strips that look like those breath freshener things you put in like a tampon, you seriously do not even know they are there so if condoms are not right for you try these. After years of natural family planning I can now pinpoint safe and unsafe days easily although it was challenging at first. Well worth it since there are no side effects or long term dangers. Also useful when and if you do want to conceive in trying for a specific sex. Dr. Shettles has a book called How To Choose The Sex Of Your Child at library that is fascinating!!
