Happy Hanukkah! In honor of Hanukkah, I'm posting one traditional recipe per day during the holiday, which starts today and ends December 28. I'm kicking off our eight days of recipes with this yum looking challah bread. When I was a wee girl at Hebrew school...that's right, Hebrew school three times a week and Friday night services once a month, I remember the greatest challah bread ever...we made it ourselves, all the little people! It was in the Bay Area, so maybe that's why the bread was so good (water thing). But I have never met a challah since that was as good as the Temple Beth Jacob challah in San Mateo. I am curious if this one would be nearly as good...I look forward to hearing what you all think of it!
Inspired :) Thank you, I learned of Challah bread through one of my lovely Jewish girlfriends long ago. It is one of my favorite foods... yum! I am very excited to try this recipe and will report back with a review! All of the Vegan recipes on this blog look interesting. I am a flexitarian who feels personally conflicted about eating animals since I love animals, so vegan recipes inspire me to eat even less meat. Your book "The kind Diet" looks interesting. Avoiding meat in ones diet is the most eco friendly thing a person can do!
Update :) I made a batch in two braded loaves. Yumm, everyone loved it. I shared some with my lovely parter (Megan) and my parents. I didn't tell them it was vegan until after they tried it and raved about how good it was LOL :) Proved that vegan food can be delicious to three skeptics! I substitued brown rice syrup with agave extract and did not sprinkle anything on top of it, except to glaze it prior to baking.
Gets a 9.7 out of 10 from me!
