faire collection! I love these earrings! Hope you pick me!

I love Prairie Underground. The company is based out of Seattle and uses organic cotton and hemp in many of their materials. It’s expensive, but lasts forever.

  • Lisa P.

Yala designs–bamboo clothing that is so soft!

  • Carissa123

Hi Alicia! I live in Michigan and need warm coats and jackets during the winter, I stumbled upon Vaute Couture from a link on this very site! I love that their coats are cute and most importantly cruelty free, also they aren’t that much more expensive than their counterparts. Now I just need to find cruelty free snow boots.

I was in need of new jazz shoes for class and auditions. After researching, I realized there weren’t many cruelty-free options but I decided to go with the Ladies Jazz Show from ethicalWARES and they’re great! The company is based in the UK and I’m in the USA so we communicated quite a bit. They were easy to talk to, the prices were reasonable and they offer so many other wonderful vegan products. I’d love this dress and earrings to add to my cruelty-free clothing collection.

  • Jen Flanagan

Eco friendly clothes are so important to the planet. Along with it being amazingly comfortable!

  • Cara Olson

    I love Moo Shoes!

    Sage Creek Organics.

Wow, love the color of this dress! I have come across several eco friendly fashion companies, but the ones I like the most are http://www.threadsforthought.com, http://www.ecoskincollections.com, and http://www.ecolissa.com. There are some seriously cute and comfy clothes on these sites, and they are also affordable, unlike many of the eco friendly and vegan lines I’ve come across elsewhere. I especially like Threads For Thought. Thanks for this question, Alicia! I’m excited to hear what everyone else says, so that I can find out about other eco friendly fashion companies. Oh, and if you’re looking for cute jewelry, Sweet Potato Jewelry is a good one to look into. The jewelry is made from recycled pieces, and you guessed it, sweet potatoes! The name itself just makes me smile. :)

  • Kristine

H&M’s Conscious Collection is fabulous – and affordable!

  • Traci

Hi Alicia! We have a local eco-friendly store called Spiritex here in Asheville, NC. They source their cotton ethically and design original clothing with organic cotton. It’s comfy and I feel good about wearing it!

  • Chelsie Beck

While I love the idea of buying my clothes from eco-friendly lines, I can’t afford them. So, to stay eco-friendly, I buy my clothes at second hand stores. Not only do I save money, but no new materials were used!

  • Cindy Aiton

Gaia Conceptions is definitely on my favorites list!

    clogzilla(at)yahoo(dot)com

  • lindalenhoff

Hi Alicia, I too love the Threads for Thought line, and that you can pick up pieces at Whole Foods. Then you can just bring them back on your next trip if you need to return or exchange. This saves me a lot in shipping fees. I do still rely on Gaiam for basics like flowy tops, and I love their wide-leg bamboo pants for dressing up. Very fancy!

  • Linda Janssen

My best ecofriendly option is my local rerun boutique. I also like to visit those boutique when I am travelling. I found a lot of unexpected treasures in those places.

  • Charmaine Porter

    Hola!!
Here in Seattle we have SPUD…an organic local produce delivery that is not only DELICIOUS but hugely convenient. All of your orders can be placed online, they have hundreds and hundreds of items ranging from fruits and veg to fresh baked breads and creals and even vegan meat substitutes. The best part is they calculate each delivery so you can see how much your carbon footprint is reduced with each order.

Its inexpensive and almost all of the items come from local farms ot companies.

I love supporting local while reducing my footprint!!!

  • madamedujambon

I live in the Netherlands and from when I was a kid I loved wearing clother other people wore. It had the memory I was looking for in clothing. My nephews jeans jacket for example and my cousins dr Martens. I think that’s eco friendly shopping. I still buy second hand clothes, bags and shoes nowadays. In Holland we luckily got a lot of fashionable secondhand shops :) I really love your t-shirt and earrings so I hope you choose me (eventhough I live abroad ;-))

  • Darcy

Hi Alicia, I love my Urban Halo headband for working out. It’s so soft and comfortable and looks super cute too!

  • hanna

That’s so beautiful and love that it’s practical and at the same time lovely (important that it’s not just about buying a lot of clothes, but instead buying a few eco ones that you can use over again). I love indosole (http://indosole.com), they are a small company, fun, comfy and colourful shoes that are made out of bike tires. A good community and I think it’s important supporting small entrepreneurs that are making a difference :)

  • MelissaLacitignola

Oh my gosh! I absolutely love it! It would make for one amazing birthday gift for me this month since all of my dresses were somehow lost in our move back to CA :/

And since I’ve mainly been shopping for my kind baby (who is now 13 months) I’ve become a huge fan of Fawn and Forest. http://www.fawnandforest.com/

  • Jimmyc

Moo Shoes. There are very, very few wrestling referees who are vegan, and they allow me to do my job without having to check my principles at the mat. The wife collects turtle items, and I’m a proud Terrapin (U of MD); our daughter would enjoy the dress I’m sure.

  • Tanya

Cute dress! ~one of my favorite brands is Threads for Thought! I found a t-shirt of theirs in a thrift shop years ago, bought it, and still love it! Had no idea who they were at the time, but have since learned! A new favorite is the group Trades of Hope – http://www.tradesofhope.com – they aren’t “eco-friendly” per se, but they are a collaborative group that buys goods crafted by women all over the world, thus “empowering women out of poverty” (that’s their tagline). Best!

  • Kelsea Rae Little

Hello Alicia! Firstly, I wanted to let you know that The Kind Diet changed my life – I make braised daikon at least three times a month! And I always have seaweed in my pantry now :) For my entry, I’m mentioning an Eco boutique here in San Diego called Mythology. They use sustainable materials and have lots of vegan clothing. They even have dresses with fabric that was painted by elephants, and half of the proceeds go back to the sanctuary where they live! So amazing. Thank you for the opportunity!

Here in Tucson we have a store called Fed By Threads: http://fedbythreads.com/pages/our-mission.

For every item sold, they donate to emergency feeding programs, and they have a body-positive commitment: http://fedbythreads.com/pages/fed-by-threads-body-positive-commitment

    From their ‘about’ page:

Fed By Threads set out to inspire change & get us back to the roots of what America stands for: generosity, community, feeding the hungry, and making real goods for our national economy. Let’s stop outsourcing jobs. Let’s stop destroying the environment. Let’s stop blaming the hungry for being hungry. We sacrifice profits to feed hungry Americans, revitalize U.S. garment manufacturing to create jobs, & use sustainable fabrics to protect our environment.

That is why we only curate American-Made Brands that use sustainable fabrics along with our in-house Fed By Threads’ branded pieces! And since we love our little furry friends, we don’t carry any animal products in-store or online.

The Choice is simple; The results are profound.

By taking personal responsibility to create change, together we can make a difference!

While there are many projects aimed at fixing hunger problems around the world, Fed By Threads is focused on fighting HUNGER in our own backyard, our own communities, our own country right here in America!

    What motivates us?

16.7 million children in America live in poverty in households that lack food security.

50.1 million Americans lived in food insecurity in 2010.

14.9% of households (17.9 million households) were food insecure.

How Do We Provide 12 Meals Per Item Sold?

We have made financial commitments to the Community Food Bank Of Southern Arizona and a nationwide hunger relief organization from each item sold which covers their costs of providing 12 emergency meals. This allows Fed By Threads to have both a local and national impact.

Our goal is to get people helping to feed America’s hungriest mouths, those that are barely getting by. The simple act of buying one of our hand-cut & hand-sewn pieces provides 12 meals! That’s the core foundation of who we are!

    Hi Alicia :-)

How are you? I just happened to come across your website :-) The dress you’re giving away probably wouldn’t fit me or look good on me because of my body shape 😉 but I’m happy to recommend “Hess Natur”. They make really comfortable pjs and I believe all of their stuff is made of organic materials and it’s fair trade as well. If that’s not enough, they do really nice things, for instance if I recommend Hess Natur to someone (like you ;-)) and you place an order there, I get to pick a gift later or what is even cooler, I can donate the amount and they’ll double it so that someone in Bangladesh (where they also fairly produce clothes) can have an eye operation to regain their eyesight because apparently 80% of blindness there can be healed with an operation but people often can’t afford it!

I just checked their website and unfortunately it does not seem to be available in english, so if you want to check out their pjs, here is a direct link:

    http://www.hessnatur.com/de/waesche/damen/nachtwaesche/c/waesche-damen-nachtwaesche

If you end up finding something you like there you could tell them I recommended you and we could donate the money for another eye OP 😉

I love Keep Company based in LA. They make super rad sneakers that are vegan and eco friendly. They are cool because they wanted to make awesome and funky kicks that would typically only come in guys sizes, in women’s sizes too. They also partner with awesome artists like Tegan& Sarah, Bon Iver, Animal Collective, Dinosaur Jr. The artists design their own shoe and then choose an organization to give the proceeds to. Maybe you could do a line of Kind shoes! They are just a great company made up of really cool, down to earth eco vegans who have a passion for awesome sneaker design :) http://www.keepcompany.com

  • Mattie Carvalho

My best friend just received a Stella McCartney wallet as a gift. Until then, I had heard of SM but hadn’t actually seen any of her designs. Unfortunately, I cannot afford any of her items but they are super cute & it’s always fun to online window shop. Personally, I stay eco-friendly by shopping at Crossroads, a lovely thriftshop, just a couple of blocks away from me in Berkeley.

  • Shelly H.-Wilkerson

The Honest Company has to be mine. I love their cleaning products and baby care items. Although many won’t consider diaper suppliers a fashion company, but I have to brag on their healthy baby items. They pretty much carry everything needed. It makes me feel wonderful knowing I am using better products.

Gorgeous!!! The best eco fashion company I’ve come across (and there haven’t been many, unfortunately) was Cariloha, which uses bamboo, an incredibly soft, durable, and sustainable resource, for clothing and household items. I saw their store in Freeport, Bahamas but I believe they also have locations in the states.

Nicorajohns.com All vegan shoes made in the usa from eco friendly materials.
I used to buy all ohgeez organic clothes for my kiddos but sadly they went out of business which is why it is so important to support the small guys. You can still find some of her pieces out there. It was a mother owned business all clothes were sewn in the us by moms. My kids lived in those clothes:(

  • Terrie

    Beutiful dress and lovely earrings!
I know this sounds odd but Goodwill or Deseret Undustries. Why? Reduce reuse recye! You can get anything from books to clothes to furniture and toys there. And at good prices. My daughter hates wearing the same thing other kids wear so she can fins sifferent things at thrift stores and feels goos that shes reusing something instead of it being tossed. Baby clothes are often tossed even though they are hardly worn out so they are like new! Plus they employee those who need job;training or have handicaps! Its a win win

Hi Alicia, the colour of the dress and earrings are beautiful.
My favourite Eco designer is Nicole Bridger. I have been adding to my wardrobe, her beautiful pieces made of natural fabrics for 6 years. She is a Canadian designer and you can buy her product online at http://nicolebridger.com/shop/
All her clothing is ethically manufactured at her factory in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her cashmere sweaters are made at a fair trade factory in Nepal.

  • Jennifer Rayl

I really like Von Vonni’s transformer/convertible styles. You never have to buy another dress again because just one Von Vonni dress or shirt could be worn over 25 ways! Just grab a few colors and that will take care of your entire wardrobe. If you ever wear one out enough to where it has holes or tears, you could simply use the fabric to make other clothes and/or accessories. Because you’d only need maybe a few colors of each to complete your wardrobe, you’re not only saving money but also helping to minimize pollution from trucks that have to continuously transport materials to and from other clothes’ manufacturers. I also love the fact that you can wear them for any occasion; they’re so versatile. You can style them as a cool summer halter, stylish one-shoulder look, cute strapless, sexy backless, even as an elegant evening gown look. The excess fabric can either be tucked away, hung loose for a flowy look, or even bunched up to make a flower brooch or bow. The possibilities are virtually endless with Von Vonni wear! And another added benefit? One dress fits sizes 0-12. The design of them is also very simple, so you could easily make your own. :)

I really dig Arm the Animals. What a great compassionate company they are. Their tees are amazing. Thank you for being vegan and a great role model. =)

How lovely! I really like many, but alternative apparel has a whole eco line. I buy their items for my herbal apothecary company. I think it is important for we the consumers to be conscious about what we eat and what we wear. Being dedicated to those who live cruelty free and conscious will make this beautiful earth a happy earth. Thank you for your work. Carly, Vermana Herbals LLC.

Hi Alicia and everyone! I have been a vegetarian for seventeen years, and just converted to a vegan diet a year ago after becoming educated on the cruel treatment of dairy animals. I try not to push my beliefs on others, but I have been feeling guilty about that lately. If I am not advocating for these animal then how much difference am I actually making? So I have decided to host a vegan bbq for y neighborhood at the end of this month. Any ideas or recipes that would be easy to make in large quantities would be greatly appreciated. I am not wealthy by any means lol, so I am trying to keep this as low budget as possible. I just want to do what I can to educate others on a vegan diet. Also, does anyone know where I could get some pamphlets to hand out during the bbq?

    Hi,

I enjoy Burt’s Bee company for baby. Their lip balm is great, which I know you are against using products with bees, but I also love their lotion with mica minerals and their organic cottons for baby are simple and calm.

I have come across a new great yoga clothing line, Ahm. Their sport bras are so comfortable and everything is made from renewable bamboo! Love working out it in, and I tell all my clients to wear more eco friendly clothing when they work-out or do yoga.
