Animal Love

Tracey & Jon Stewart’s Animal Rescue Farm

Tracey and Jon Stewart are turning their 12-acre farm in Middletown, New Jersey into a Farm Sanctuary site! This will be the fourth Farm Sanctuary location (on top of upstate NY, Northern and Southern California sanctuaries). How awesome is that? I was so excited to learn about this. In case you don’t already know, this is amazing!

Check out this video of them talking animal love and their Farm plans to CBS!

What animal sanctuary do you love to visit?

This is wonderful! You know, I had this moment recently, looking at 1 of my favorite catalogs for women’s clothes, where 1 of the models was a farmer, and she’s brushing a goat. I must have glanced through the pages 20 times before I realized the goat’s neck was in a metal triangle shaped holder. I assume for feeding or milking purposes. It just struck me so differently now that I am vegan, AND BOTHERED me so much that a vision like that is so common that it can be placed in a catalog. So, I tore the page out.

I don’t live near a Animal or Farm Sanctuary. But I had seen this story and loved it! She is an amazing person and I would love to be able to do this! But thank you for sharing it, so much <3

After reading this post, we took our 3 children, ages 2, 9 & 11 to the Catskill Animal Sanctuary in NY. We paid to become members because the cost was so inexpensive to do so. The tour was wonderful and fun and special. Both my 11 year old and I held a duck that was rescued from the streets of NY. The stories of all of the animals touched our hearts. The most special part of the trip was seeing how the experience showed up in our children. My 2 year old has been talking about the sanctuary and making play sanctuaries at home with blocks and toy animals. We talk about how it is a special place where they take care of animals. While my older 2 sons are not vegan, they have a beautiful awareness and respect about their food choices. Neither wanted to eat meat or eggs the next day, and they have both been cooking vegan meals from our cookbooks at home once a week. The sanctuary had the most beautiful signs – quotes of humanity – spread out along the property. The animals were so sweet and loving and tender. We look forward to going again when the weather is warmer.

Another great place for kids is Earthplace in Westport, CT. They have an outdoor bird rescue sanctuary open free of charge to the public, along with an indoor rescue area for smaller animals like turtles. All of the animals have names along with their injury and rehab story. They will occasionally bring the animals out for the kids. They also have picnic areas and beautiful hiking trails. It’s a super peaceful and lovely place!
