Labor Day isn’t here just yet! It’s time to get as much pool and beach time in as you can before fall. Here are some sexy suits to take you through the last days of summer, courtesy of our eco fashion correspondent, Greta:
Six Eco-Chic Swimsuits for Every Body Type
By now we’ve all been out enjoying the summer suN. As you make your way to the pool or beach, I hope that you’ve found that perfect suit that both complements your body shape and your personal style. If you haven’t… I’ve got the suit for you! Take a look at my favorite eco-friendly suits to keep you looking hot all summer long!
1. Athletic (Esprit, recycled nylon)
An athletic body calls for a little added attention to help create curves. Go for a top that has interesting details like a little ruffle, a key hole or even a padded triangle shape. For the bottoms, you’ll want to accentuate your fit bod, so a string bikini is always a great pick. Try this suit from Esprit, made from recycled nylon.
2. Large Chest (Robin Piconne, polyester/ spandex, made in the USA)
Make sure you get support and coverage. A halter top is a great option as you can adjust it. Also, look for pleated detail in the bust on a suit, so that you come away with a more flattering shape that is integral to the design of the suit. This bold pattern suit from Robin Piconne is proudly made in the USA and a great option for a well endowed woman.
3. Tummy Tuck (Olga Olson, micro fiber lycra, low-impact dye + ethically made in Brazil supporting a women’scoop)
Concealing a tummy in a swimsuit may seem like an impossible task, but with the right suit it can be done. Look for either a one piece with ruching detail across the front (the extra folds of material conceal a less than super model stomach), or go for a two-piece in which the bottom half sits above the navel. The high waist cut holds in the stomach while making a retro style statement. This suit from Olga Olson captures both a classic design shape as well as comfort. Ethically made in Brazil by a women’s coop.
4. Full Hips and Thighs (Eco-Swim, recycled polyester and recycled nylon)
Choose a suit that draws the eye up away from the lower half and compliments a beautiful bust and décolletage. You can also wear a suit that offers more coverage in a skort or boy short cut. I love this one from Eco Swim because the main event is all up top. Keep your bottoms simple if you’re going to sport a bikini.
5. Lanky (Olga Olson, micro fiber lycra, low-impact dye + ethically made in Brazil supporting a women’s coop)
Lanky is just another way for saying your might have a bit of a boy body. This is the classic Twiggy look. If you’ve got this bod, you can afford to have some fun with what you wear and add on the embellishments. A ruched bandeau top will help create shape while a ruffled bottom adds interest to the whole look. This suit from Olga Olson is every bit of fun that you could ever want in a bikini!
6. Small Chest (Patagonia, nylon spandex blend, part of the common threads take back initiative from Patagonia)
If you fall into this category, you will want to add some oomph with your swimsuit. Stay away from non-padded bandeau tops, and opt for ruffles, light padding, horizontal strips and ruching. You will also want to play up your small frame with a string bikini bottom that can help accentuate your hips with the side ties. Patagonia makes awesome separates that pair nicely to make a high quality suit from ethically sourced fabrics.
I hope this post has helped you on your quest for the perfect eco-chic suit this summer, and if you are headed out on a trip for some fun in the sun, check out my personal packing list here for all my warm weather essentials.
