I started on a vegan diet in mid 2011 after reading Alicia’s book. I was 50 years old and I had been on medicine for high cholesterol since my late thirties. I was not overweight or eating unhealthy. My high cholesterol was believed to be a genetic factor. About six months ago after eating vegan for 2 1/2 years, my doctor suggested that I cut back from 20mg of cholesterol meds to 10mg’s of cholesterol meds. So I did. I had my blood checked last week and my levels were pretty much the same as when I was taking the 20mg…
So my doctor is taking me off the medication! If my levels stay down then I know it is because of the diet.
