I made this for my family the other night and it was awesome! I have the pickiest husband ever, and I was told I could make this again! I don't know about it tasting like chick-fil-a's sandwich, but good nonetheless. Thanks for sharing! -
This looks really good! Can't wait to try it, I really loved this sandwich before I stopped eating meat! And yes there are 3 cups of oil in this recipe but it's for frying in, not drinking! You don't consume all of it!! Good grief. -
For me it is just a big ol hamburger or cheeseburger and no I do not care for the special sauce...Vegan of course with all the fixins like lettuce, ketchup, hold the onion for me and lite on the mayo. MMMMM heaven. As for chick fil a well lets just just say that we all have our opinions and can agree to disagree. Maybe signing a petition to support Gays and Lesbians is the way to go as well as animals. -
The recipe, looks delicious! Even my meat eating boyfriend would like this. And no, this isn't an everyday treat, but thank you Alicia for sharing a fun recipe.
I wanted to comment on the whole "Chic- fil- Lame" email I received. I understand you may not like the food there, and no, I don't know if they treat their chickens nicely or not, and yes, I wish everyone was vegan, even I wish I could be strict vegan but I make mistakes. But please, don't call a company "lame" just because you don't agree with them. I am all for standing up for what you believe in, but there are certain ways to go about it. Like signing a petition that animals don't get tortured, etc. But name calling isn't the way.
I am not saying that to be mean or rude, but would anyone want to be called lame or any other "bad" name? I know that many individuals, including myself, that wouldn't. Why is a company any different?
Once again, we are all entitled to our opinions. I love the Kind life, and what you are doing Alicia, I really respect you and love reading and learning more on your website. Thanks again for your hard work. The Kind Diet has changed my life as well as many others and so has this website.
Thanks,
Kaley -
I hope you meant 3 TABLESPOONS of oil?? I barely drizzle oil in my cooking.
And Chic-fil-a did NOTHING wrong. -
All that oil. This dish might save chickens but its deadly for humans. All that oil? Let the folks who eat at Chick A Fil poison themselves if that's their choice. -
I think the harsh world about chic fil a might look as though your going along with societies visions on Christians. I don't know if they serve cruel free chickens or not, but my main concern is our health and yes I did love the sandwich once but am trying to become healthier. I'm new at all the items you call for in your recipes can I find them at Trader Joes and Fresh Markets? I want to live my life in peace and harmony with the world and the creatures God has blessed us with. Sandra Kay -
yes I think maxacol could have written everything in a much less preachy tone. Understand where he's coming from as well, but did he not read Alicia's post that this is a "treat when you are feeling sassy." She's not saying go make and eat this everyday. Her book recommends "reducing your dependence on processed and convenience foods" and "use salt with care." I say everything in moderation. Which is better anyway, trying to go vegan or at least vegetarian, getting tired of people preaching so much stuff to you and telling you to eat 100% healthy 100% of the time so giving up and going back to meat and processed crap, or allowing yourself to feel naughty once and a while by trying a less healthy but at least vegetarian food to see that vegetarian stuff can be yummy and decadent as well. -
Maxcol is just commenting on how to eat for health. Sure they could have addressed it differently but I did understand and see where they were coming from..
Thanks for the recipe. I hope that it helps many people lean more towards vegan and then they can adjust to eating less fatty foods.
I am so tired of this chik-fil-a thing though. Lets stop talking about it. -
Who cares if someone wants a kind treat every once in a while? When you become rude you turn off flirts and even other vegans. I know I'll be making this for my vegetarian boyfriend (I'm trying to show him that you can eat vegan and enjoy delicious foods). -
I don't post here that often, but man, maxcol, are you ever bossy and rude. You give all vegans a bad name by acting that way. -
Okay, no lecture, just suggestions on high to fix this junky recipe. First of all, remove the oil. You will be baking this. Homemake seiten without salt. Add poultry flavoring to mimic chicken. Roll mock chicken in panko bread crumbs. To remove the high salt from commercial dill pickles and their juice, make your own refrigerator pickles with pickling cukes and seasoning. They take 3 days, and are great without the salt. Once your tastebuds get used to salt and fat free living , you will enjoy the actual taste of food. And by the way, the only reason you need to oversalt is due to over fat. Do not add any salt to this recipe. And, instead of soy milk, which is high in fat, try using almond milk, it is lower if fat. If you are at a loss as to how to eat vegan properly read Dr.Barnard, he will help you learn to saute without oil and bake instead of fry. By the way, for those you have to have salt, try a Mexican treat called Tajun. It is chili flakes with lime and a touch of salt. It has 185 mgs of salt to a teaspoon instead of the normal 2000. And do not use fake salts, they overdose you on potassium and affect kidney function. Sorry for the lecture, and I said I wouldn't. I am a Vegan chef and hate when people are unhealthy due to laziness. And to the Wings girl, you can make mock seiten with liquid smoke and roll them in a mix of: pureed and boiled chili pepper, vinegar, lime juice, tajun, and rolled in cornmeal. These are great. And no oil, just baking. I live next door to a family that came here from Mexico, they are aghast at the sodium in FRanks Red Hot. they make their own wtih the recipe I just mentioned, minus the Tajun. I'm done. -
I am embarassed to see this recipe on Kind Life. 3 cups of oil! Do you not know that oil has 14 grams of fat in one tablespoon. 52 grams in a quarter cup- so,let's do the math, this awful recipe has 624 grams of fat and yes, it will soak into the food. Also, does sodium ring a bell. I have no idea why someonw would want to reproduce this kind of food. Please, whoever developed this awful recipe, sorry for the insult, but please read some Dr. Neal Barnard from PCRM. Just because you are a vegan doesn't mean you have a licence to live on chips, fattening vegan cheese, bleached white flour, vitamins with lanolin (oil from sheep fur) sugary chocolate, high sodium diet, high fat diet, etc... I agree with the person that said this site used to be less negative, have nice articles. If it doesn't change I think I will quit. -
I use to love these before I became Vegan. So making this tonight!!!
Dianna, the Gardein brand they recomended has buffalo wings ( I just saw it on there web site) also, you should be able to buy vegan ranch dressing in the store, my husband has gotten some before. -
This sounds awesome! I want to try it.
I also need some veganized buffalo wings with ranch dressing dip. For real.
