Thank you to Brittany Dohman, Cassie Wakefield, Erin Malland, Robyn Eastling and Zachary Wolk for your suggestions in Portland!
I stayed at the Ace Hotel which is so cool. It’s decked out in tons of cool vintage finds, and is just very artistic and groovy. They have a collection of vintage vinyl that you can borrow to play on the turntables in your room! And there are Ace Hotels all over the country if you want to check them out.
I ate at Blossoming Lotus and had a delicious Macro Bowl. Also had the Raw Fudge. Yum! Later I checked out Portobello Vegan Trattoria and had the Beet and Cheese Arugula Salad. All the vegetables are locally grown. The cheese was made by Field Roast Grain Meat Co., who make my favorite sausage. I also had the Gnocchi and loved it! Everything was sooo good. I didn’t have any wine, but I loved reading about the beers and wines because they are getting it from local people who take local grapes and who drop off the wine to the restaurant on their bicycles! It’s very groovy and in a great location. I loved the street and the vibe of it all!
The people of Portland seem very happy. Everyone was so friendly and happy to be there. Ace let me borrow a pink bike and I took it on the train. I got off at Washington Park and rode down to the Japanese Gardens. The ride was so nice and was my favorite part of the trip. There was this one squirrel with a huge nut in her mouth running around. So cute! Being on the bike was very freeing with the wind and air on me, I was trying to yell out into the wilderness.
I was only in Portland for a very short time so I wasn’t able to make it to a bunch of places I wanted to try out. The Farm Cafe sounded good. And I’m totally bummed I didn’t have time to make it to the Vegan Mini Mall where Sweetpea is. My friend Erin brought me these peanut butter and chocolate treats from Sweetpea that were insanely good! I also really wanted to go to Bye and Bye Cafe which sounds like a really cool bar/cafe with a cool scene. Next time!
