El Hogar Animal Sanctuary is the first ‘multi-species’ animal sanctuary in Spain! It started in 2004, rescuing the most dogs and cats from shelters who were in danger of being euthanized. In 2007 El Hogar expanded its sanctuary to take in ducks, pigs, chickens, sheep and any other animal considered “for human consumption” or exploited by humans. It’s mission is to rescue and recover animals that are victims of exploitation, educate visitors on veganism and fight for animal rights and against speciesism. To date, they have rescued and cared for more than 300 different species that otherwise would have been victims of human exploitation.
