Stop The Keystone Pipeline

I wanted to share this video with you all about the Keystone Pipeline. I was watching The Daily Show a few weeks ago and saw this segment.  Jon Stewart did a great job of covering the story as well as explaining the situation.

If you are not familiar with the Keystone Pipeline, here is some more basic info. The Canadian company TransCanada hopes to build a pipeline called the Keystone XL. This pipeline would trek close to 2,000 miles from Alberta, Canada all they way to the Gulf Coast of Texas. The Keystone XL wouldn’t just BE transporting regular oil but tar sands oil. Getting oil from tar sands is even worse then extracting standard oil because it’s so much harder to extract and refine. Imagine extracting oil from a sticky tar marshmallow substance? It would take a lot of machinery and tons of water… Not cool!

If we are going to stabilize our climate before things get really out of our control, we cannot go backwards and approve this pipeline!

We have the power to prevent the pipeline from being constructed. The Senate already voted not to pass it in November!! The issue is even though senate voted no, some want to fight back and get this approved sometime early 2015.

Let’s take action to preserve our land, ecosystems, animal friends, and future by spreading awareness about the pipeline, sending a message to Obama, sign the Keystone Xl pledge of peaceful resistance, and stay up to date on upcoming votes.

Most Canadians don’t want the pipeline either. Please note that in the above mention regarding the pipeline as it can be misleading and makes Canadians sound like evil environmental destroyers, when in fact most Canadians have a deep respect for environmental preservation and sustainable resources.

Oops, the video isn’t there for some reason.

Don’t worry, Obama will veto any bill that tries to force the pipeline.

believe it when we see the veto!

Seems like gas prices are dropping quite nicely for me anyway (although not without quite the sacrifice according the BOOM video). As they have and, if they keep doing so, I really don’t see the point in the pipeline. However, as with this issue and all others, activists need to think of the happy alternative to foreign oil to go with the opposing votes. Good for the senate and hopefully we can be the leaders in clean alternative energy and green/eco initiatives. As the need for petroleum products continues, the recycling strategies/slogan (reduce, re-use) and a list of ways to do so for various things should be a more re-accuring sight in all societies which could be implemented/enforced by legislative leaders.
