I just discovered this great book called Your Vegetarian Pregnancy. I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to respond to all of your pregnancy questions... But I promise, answers are coming!
In the meantime, I wanted to recommend this book. I've been doing some research since you all sent me your questions on vegan pregnancy and I found this book. It is so great!!!!
If you are thinking of having a baby, or you are already pregnant, read this book. It's written by Dr. Holly Roberts, who is a board certified Obstetrition/Gynecologist. I think it will answer tons of your questions, and much more. It's really a must read for anyone who wants to have a healthy pregnancy... Especially non-vegans!
If you read it, let me know what you think!

Is there any breastfeeding info in it? I am both a breastfeeder and a breastfeeding counselor and would love bf info for myself and for my clients.

Eve: If you scroll up to my comment, I've linked to a couple of vegan books that have been really helpful to me. :) I find that a lot of vegetarian books are pretty good about addressing vegan issues, though, including Your Vegetarian Pregnancy.
Good luck to you and your partner!

wow. tons of info! we're also in the "working on it" phase. my question (for any of you who know) is does anyone know about if any of these books are for vegans? i was vegetarian for my last pregnancy and it's a whole 'nother ball game! i'm really looking for some specific info on vegan pregnancy...i've heard so many things from so many people, but it's hard to filter the quality information. i've been reading a book on macrobiotics and am really into it, but also, there are mixed perspectives on whether macro is safe for pregnancy...
help!
thanks!

On our radio show earlier this year (www.animalvoices.org) we did a show focussing on vegan pregnancies and did a really good interview with nutritionist Jae Steele on this subject, in which I learned a lot. The podcast of this show isn't available on our website (yet), but it can be downloaded straight from this url: http://archive.animalvoices.org/AnimalVoices_2010-02-12.mp3 I highly recommend it.

I would just suggest checking these books out from the library if you can, or reading various reviews on them, as they seem to be useful to varying degrees for different people, and there's no sense in buygin something you don't need. It seems like a lot of it depends on your experience, and I've certainly been burned after buying a book I thought looked great, only to find it was mostly full of stuff I already knew. Save a tree, make use of you library before you buy : ).

Your vegetarian pregnancy is great! We are still in the "trying" process, so I am letting a friend borrow it in the meantime, and she LOVES it too!
Hazel- I recommend Your vegetarian Pregnancy over The Green Pregnancy Diet. I have both. The Green Pregnancy Diet has some wonderful points, but the book is very thin, and I seem to get more out of the other. They are a both great though.

The Green Pregnancy Diet actually looks like it might be good:

That's definitely a great book! I have to also strongly recommend Pregnancy, Children, and the Vegan Diet by Dr. Michael Klaper. It's super vintage, but really clear, concise and helpful. Plus you get to see cute photos of vegan babies and children, including Joaquin Phoenix! Later on, Raising Vegan Children in a Non-Vegan World is a really great guide to have around.

My husband and I are planning to conceive soon. I have read this book and would highly recommend it. It's also a helpful resource for laying down the facts to those family members who think that you should consume animal products during pregnancy.

Wow, my cousin is 7 months and 1/2 and this sounds great for her. She just started reading the kind diet, which I have given her and I think she will also be very open to this book. Thanks for the advice Alicia!

I don't plan on becoming pregnant for several years, but I often wonder how my veggie pregnancy and raising a veg-head munchkin will be! Thanks for the tip about this book! I may start reading now, because after all, one can never be too prepared! LOL!

I used this book when I was pregnant with all of my kids, it is great!! I then passed it on to other preggers relatives, so hope they found it just as useful!! I felt like it was the only book I needed during pregnancy (except we know everybody has What To Expect When you are expecting).

This is a great book! I just found out I am also pregnant and bought up as many vegan books as i could! I also started a vegan pregnancy blog! http://www.mykindpregnancy.blogspot.com to share information with pregnant vegans, answer questions, my experiences, etc!

I am 11 weeks pregnant and have a 2 year old son! I have been vegan for a year (vegetarian off and on before that...for pretty much my whole life)...I wasn't vegan when I was pregnant with my son (was vegetarian) and so I actually bought 'Your Vegetarian Diet' and have been really enjoying it! I also have been using recipes from The Kind Diet and 'The Thrive Diet'...every pregnancy is so unique and with extreme nausea this time around, I've had trouble eating the greens and fruits and smoothies that I usually love! I have found thankfully that Alicia, your recipes for the pinenut, basil quinoa and the kobucha squash soup have really been nourishing and settling for my stomach! So I recommend this book as well as the others which although aren't aimed for pregnancy, have great recipes that are well balanced!!! Jayanna
