I SO LOVE this recipe! I just purchased the ingredients from the store. Oh My Gosh! I have the biggest sweet tooth right now....I was thinking this and the berry pie would be great-to satisfy my sweet tooth...along with some black and white beans, sprouted sweet brown rice and aduki bean chocolate brownie cake I made. (I used those ingredients to make the brownie cake- next time I'll make it vegan and use some other sweetener than avage).
Well, I'm so excited for this macrobiotic pecan pie! Maybe I'll wait until Christmas to make it so I can have it along with the berry pie to last me until New Years!!!

@ Deidre Laffere--- barley malt has a really gooey syrup type consistency. i'm not sure what would be good to substitute it with. most pecan pie recipes calls for corn syrup though

made this pie last night using this crust recipe http://www.veganbaking.net/vegan-recipes/pies/flaky-pie-crust.html both came out great! the maple flavor from the syrup came through quite a lot which made it sweeter than other pecan pies i've had before. i liked it even better today after it was in the fridge overnight! i loved it though and will be making it again for thanksgiving next week!----@nay, i used 3/4 cup 100% pure organic maple syrup grade A meduim amber smiley-laughing.gif

I don't have barley malt and I do not have it available in my small town. I am assuming that it's the powder form. What would ya'll suggest as a alternative. I have Turbinado raw cane sugar and Sucanat. Any suggestions?
