What is the movie about? I make meatless pet food!

    • TheKindLife

That’s awesome! What’s the name of the company?

      • Brad Freeman

Clear Creek Natural Products is the name. We are resurrecting the business that we were doing 20 years ago. Our product launch date is March 1st in a Natural Foods Co-op here in Bloomington, Indiana called Bloomingfoods. We were working with Home at Last Animal Sanctuary in Kentucky and with Best Friends in Utah way back when. We plan to support these folks again as soon as we are able. Any kind of trailer about the movie? I am curious!

  • Ariel Frey

Yay!!! Amazing! I would love to meet you and your family! Your IIN lecture inspired me soooo much! You’ve got to check out Green Zebra, Ground Control, and lyfe kitchen. I’m not sure what your time schedule looks like, but I am free all day on Wednesday and I am usually free during the day ever other day. Woo HOO! I’m so excited that you are coming to chicago!

  • Denise Butkus

That’s awesome! Chicago has a great veggie scene, and my favorite has always been Karyn’s on Green! You’ll have to check it out! My grandmother just turned 102, and I’ve been keeping up on my vegan reading in hopes to make it to her age one day. Bring some warm clothes with you too, and hope Chicago treats you well! :)

  • Linda C Hughes

    Hi, Alicia Good Morning!
I’m a Chicagoan I have lived here almost my whole life, 3rd generation to live here so my family has been a residence since 1880 :) I love Chicago, oh my so many wonderful restaurants here hard to choose just 1, but our Chicago pizza is the best, and we can get one vegan friendly for you! Would love to meet you while your here in Chicago.

How I live a kind life? Help whomever & wherever I can lend a hand. To sending donations to help the homeless to donating hand made items I make to several charities.

Friday or Saturday would be the best days to meet, early evening hours say around 6 ish p.m. :)

  • Maggie

I’m so excited for you to visit Chicago! I live in Logan Square and our neighborhood is very “kind”. One of my favorite restaurants is Ground Control (Paul McCartney got carry-out there when he was touring!). Another can’t-miss is The Chicago Diner – there’s a location in Logan Square as well as on Halsted Street. My fiancé and I love going to our neighborhood farmers market (which is moved indoors during our cold winter). We also enjoy walking through Palmer Square (great place for you to bring Bear!) and running through Humboldt Park. I hope you have a great trip in Chicago and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about this wonderful city!

  • UptonsNaturals

Alicia + Kind Lifers one and all: Upton’s Naturals seitan manufacturer extraordinaire here. Writing you from our Chicago-based seitan factory. Our favorite way to live the kind life? Making seitan for the masses, 7 days a week. Every box is a life saved, and every life saved is something of which we are proud. But the best part? Knowing that it’s not just us, but all of everyone who buys our product. It’s what we call the team kindness effort and it’s just one thing that wakes us up in the morning. Now, a favorite must try restaurant? We hear there’s a cafe attached to the seitan factory that’s pretty darn good. Upton’s Breakroom they call it? :)

    • Karen Marshall

I’m from the Chicago area, but live in Columbia, MO now. I saw Upton’s at the local grocery store here and decided to give it a try. I love the Italian Seitan. Keep up the good work! I didn’t even know there was a cafe. I’ll definitely need to check it out next time I’m home.

    • Brad Freeman

Our local co-op used to make a seitan for the deli with a sauce called “Gorilla Sauce” Have you ever heard of it?

      • UptonsNaturals

We haven’t! But a with a name like Gorilla Sauce we can only imagine it’s pretty darn good.

    • Brad Freeman

I have a friend who is one of the founders of LocalFolks Foods in Chicago. They sell sauces. Have you heard of them?

  • saniel

Chicago Diner great vegan restaurant. Was able to visit The Chi but very briefly but when I go again it be one of the stops. My sister went and said it was fantastic!

    Hi Alicia!

Chicago can’t wait to host you and your family at the end of the month!

I have been a vegetarian for 20+ years, and my fiance is definitely gaining on me. We strive every day to live a vegan lifestyle, free of any products that caused our beloved animals harm. Since “The Kind Life” hit the shelves, my appetite for knowing all things “animal-rights” has been insatiable, and thankfully, I have a partner who feels the same way. It may be a concept friends and family think odd at times, but we can agree that our beings are calmer and more at ease without animal products polluting them.

My fiance and I would love to meet up in Chicago, any day; our favorites include: Chicago Diner, Karyn’s Cooked, and Karyn’s on Green, among others. Regardless, we hope you have an amazing time in Chicago, I am very proud of the vegan progress we as a community have made over the years.

  • Diana O. Castro

Yay! I this is so exciting.

  • wiell312

Karyn’s, The Chicago Diner, Native Foods and the Heartland Cafe are all well known places I have enjoyed. If you want really fancy, NoMi is quite pricey but always has a lot of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and raw options, especially for its category.

  • Ashley Gilday

It would be an honor to meet with you and your family. My life revolves around food and spreading awareness on living a kind and compassionate life. I work for Daiya Foods full time in business development. I work with restaurants and food manufacturers across North America striving to get our vegan cheese on their menus, including our friends at Candle! I have a website dedicated to inspiring others. I share vegan recipes and restaurant recommendations and I’m well tapped into the local veg scene. There are so many unique restaurants to eat at in Chicago that offer plant-based/vegan options. I see Uptons replied below- they are great. So is the Chicago Diner. It’s iconic. I also have a list of restaurant suggestions below which includes some hidden gems… just depends on your mood!

  • Laura Cabrera

Alicia! That’s so exciting that you’re coming to Chicago!! :) I live in Wicker Park – one of the BEST places to be vegan in Chicago. I’ve been vegan since reading your book a couple months ago and couldn’t be happier with my decision. My boyfriend has now come around as well which I’m so excited about. We would love to meet you and your family. We have started talking about raising a family some day and would love to pick your brain on tips to raising a vegan child. Some of our favorite restaurants are Cumin Indian (sooo amazing), Mana (vegetarian restaurant with vegan menu), Handlebar (awesome vegan brunch). We also love En Hakkore for clean Asian eating (yummy vegan options) and Sultan Market is one of our favorites for Mediterranean. We also have great vintage shops to just walk around and chains like Native Foods. Let me know if you want to go to any of those places or try out another place. I’d love to meet you! :)

  • Scott Hue

Don’t miss Amitabul while you are in Chicago, delicious vegan Korean!

  • Madeline Tracy

There’s so many good vegan places in Chicago. Native Foods, Chicago Raw, Arya Bhavan, The Chicago Diner, Original Soul. And since you’ll be here for a longer time period (I assume) check out the Green City Farmers Market. It runs indoors at the nature museum every other week in the winter, and its one of the best farmers markets I’ve ever been to in my life.

  • Brittney laas

I live Chicago and it’s my birthday the 30th so you should come then :)

  • Moya

I so wish I could, or that I lived closer I would like to meet you, and your family and talk more about your book, and things that you learned along the way I am going on this journey at an older age, and would like to know more I keep having others kick me down, but am still trying to go on Well maybe I will be able to another time :) Thank you for every thing that you do!

  • Catherine Roccaforte-Probasco

Alicia, this would seriously be a dream come true for me!! I’ve had your book, “The Kind Life” since it was first released, and we have it on our coffee table. My husband and I live in a condo with our 19-year-old son in Oak Lawn Illinois. We frequently take public transportation, as a kind family, to Downtown Chicago. That’s our favorite thing to do. We get off the Orange Line train on State & Lake, and power walk through the heart of the city. Our son is starting out as a photographer (, so he always brings his camera to capture Chicago. We end our trips at the Whole Foods Market on Clark & Huron, where my husband, Jeff, and our son, AJ, get sushi, and I go to the deli and load my plate with the most delicious vegetarian foods on this beautiful planet. As Jeff relaxes and AJ goes off on his way with his camera, I usually try to squeeze in a 10-minute chair massage there, as the store has a Working Well Massage area, and then I walk up and down each aisle buying whatever food and cruelty-free, toxic-free items we need. That, Alicia, is how I live a kind life in Chicago, my favorite place to meet up with friends and family, and a must-try place to eat. I would make myself available for you!! I teach group exercise classes at the LA Fitness in Oak Lawn, Illinois on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00AM (Silver Sneakers), and Saturdays at 9:45AM (Body Works Plus Abs). You would more than welcome, but I would be able to make adjustments if it means meeting you, your family, and Kind Lifers. <3

  • Dean

My wife is a chef and my 2 boys are great with children and my dog happy is happy. Have agreat day.

  • Tara Rand

my boys and I would love to join you at the Chicago Diner for wings and cookie Dough shakes!!

  • Stefani Wolff

Alicia, that is SO awesome, Chicago is absolutely amazing!!

The Chicago Diner is widely known and a must, but my favorite vegan place is Urban Vegan, which is vegan Thai (and a bit of a hole in the wall). The yellow curry chicken will rock your world :) I would love to meet you!! I can do all weekday evenings and anytime over the weekend!!

  • Aimee

There are so many great vegan options here, but Chicago Diner has been around for ages and has the world’s best non-dairy milkshakes. I don’t go there often enough, but I love it!

  • Lauren Ann

I’m in college in central illinois but visit chicago a decent amount. Would love to see a post detailing your trip & recommendations! :)

  • Chris

I have been vegan for about 7 years and have been feeding anyone and everyone who will eat it delicious vegan foods. I love Native Foods, and I also really like Karyn’s Cooked and the Chicago Diner. These are places where anyone including non-vegs can go and find something delicious. I’m free all day Saturday and Sunday and would probably bring my boyfriend along too.

  • Catherine Roccaforte-Probasco

Hoping to edit my original comment, as I stated your book as “The Kind Life” instead of “The Kind Diet”, probably because The Kind Life was on my mind. :)

  • Jessica

Hi Alicia, although I don’t follow you on a regular basis, I truly admire all the great work you are doing and it would be rad to meet you! Any of the veg places already mentioned would be great! :)

  • Cheyla Martinez

Hi Alicia! So exciting that you and your family are coming to visit us! I live a kind life as much as possible. I have a few selected friends that live a kind life as well, but when we do go out to eat our FAV spots are Native Foods, Chicago Diner, Flying Saucer, Rangoli (Indian) and Sultans Market (Mediterranean) . All of the following places serve amazing vegan and vegetarian food. I can’t get enough of them! Last year my husband and I got married on 2.8.14 and to incorporate our Kind Life we had our wedding cake and cupcakes made from Chicago Diner. Everyone loved them and would have never thought they were vegan. I am also 16 weeks pregnant and almost done reading the Kind Mama book. It has helped so much and loved eating the Fried Noodles recipe you recommended. Thanks for the amazing tips!!

It would be a pleasure for my husband and I to meet you. I am available anytime! Have a wonderful day and hope to see you soon.

  • chiqry2

Fun! Chicago has tons of great options for vegans.

  • Audrey Barsanti

    Hi Alicia! This is very
exciting news – I’d love to get together with you, your family, and other
like-minded people! I am available any of the days you mentioned. Chicago is a
wonderful place, and is very vegan friendly. Residing here has afforded me the
opportunity to live a kind life in various ways: shopping, eating, and
socializing. For restaurant recommendations, I frequent The Chicago Diner,
Native Foods, Upton’s Naturals, and Karyn’s on Green – all
are unique treasures and worthwhile destinations. For neat sights, I would
suggest the Green City Market. It’s a nonprofit farmers’ market that is simply
spectacular, and definitely a great place to hangout for a few hours. I have no
doubt you’ll have great a time here – enjoy Chicago! Hope to hear
    from you!

  • Amanda Coyle

Hi! This is so exciting! I was hoping you would come to the Midwest for your book tour, but you never made it. :( I actually live near Milwaukee, WI, about two hours south of Chicago, but would love the chance to get to meet you and your family, and try a new restaurant in Chicago. Two of my favorite restaurants in the Milwaukee area are Beans & Barley and The National, and I love shopping and eating at Outpost Natural Foods and Good Harvest Market. Both of these places source local food. In addition to shopping organically, naturally, and locally, I get market baskets from Growing Power’s farms. Growing Power is an inner city farm, started by Will Allen, and just an amazing place. I believe his daughter has a farm in Chicago as well – this might be cool to visit? I eat plant based as much as possible, and have for three years, following reading Kind Diet. You are truly an inspiration and I would love the honor to meet you and your family. I can be flexible during the dates you will be in town!

  • Kimberly Scimeca

Hi Alicia! I am thrilled to hear that you are coming to Chicago. I think it’s fantastic that you are offering this opprotunity to people like yourself to enjoy and spread awareness together. Your books have spoke volumes and shaped me to be a better person for myself and the planet! My favorite dining spots in Chicago for Vegan are: The Chicago Diner, they offer many comfort foods all made from vegan ingrediants, Karyn’s On Greens. The Pick Me Up Cafe has a more selective menu of Vegan and more Vegetarian however a great atmosphere with a very unique theme and flow. Sultans Market is outstanding mediterranean spot! The Farmers Market in Libertyville (not hicago but surrounding) has a lively and beautiful crowd of people who sell and speak of the unique powers of the veggies they sell, I try to go every Saturday afternoon. This would be one of the greatest days of my life if I could be around you, your family and people alike including myself, who want to spread this natural, healthy and planet loving revolution. I applaud you for not just being a kind mama, wife but a person. Chicago is honored to have you! I hope to hear from you. Kimberly

  • EVA

AHHH I’m a GF/vegan college student stationed here in Chicago, and I’d totally dig meeting you! Let’s go to Karen’s Cafe. I’ve lived here for TOO long and have never been, but want to go so badly! I have zero open-minded friends to go with, and don’t want to go alone. LET’S FEAST!

  • Lydia Montagnese

Hi Alicia and the Kind team! I co-founded, a food blog for vegan and vegetarians, so it would be great to talk to you about food and kind-living! Our co-founder, Jillian, will be in Chicago and would love to meet you! The 31st or the 1st is perfect. I hope that works for you and everyone else! Cheers!

  • Nina Jagannathan

Hi Alicia! It would be wonderful to meet you and other Kind Lifers! I read and reread The Kind Life to provide myself inspiration. Definitely check out Amitabul…magical vegan Korean food. I’m also a huge fan of Native Foods and Karyn’s Raw. I am available any time after 4:30 pm.

  • Ashley

I just wanted to say thank you for dedicating your life to a healthy lifestyle and sharing it with us. My girlfriend and I have made meals from the kind diet and we were both amazed each time how delicious they came out! This meet up sounds amazing and it would truly be, one of the greatest experiences in MY life to have my partner be able to meet you. You may not even believe it but she says a Clueless quote at least once EVERY day. It’s both ridiculous but adorable and a reason that I am glad she is the one I have fallen in love with. We live in Virginia and I WISH we both could come meet you in Chicago but since Mercury is in retrograde, I just don’t feel comfortable booking such a last minute trip. However, please please please consider doing another meet up again soon! Our anniversary is coming up on Feb. 20th and I cannot think of any greater present than to eat quinoa bowls together with you and your family! I hope that you and every one else enjoys the meet up greatly and I hope to see more future events! :)

  • Vanessa

Welcome to Chicago! I do Trap-Neuter-Return, TNR, for feral and stray cat colonies here in the city. I provide food and water daily, shelter (including heat if I can in the winter), and medical care. Any cats that are friendly are adopted into indoor homes. Many of the colonies are located between Handlebar and Chicago Diner, and I’m glad to see so many people here recommended those restaurants.

  • Perri Eden Pozulp

Yey for your visit to Chicago! I almost always meet up with family and friends at Handle Bar or Chicago Diner…both are musts, for sure! The Love Hut is also super yum…so is Soul Vegetarian on the South Side However, nothing beats Ethiopian in my opinion!! We have a great Ethiopian neighborhood with a handful of great restaurants. We also have an awesome Vietnamese neighborhood – and Pho is a must in the winter months :-)

i have YOU to thank for living a Kind life for 6+ years…your book is what changed my life/lifestyle forever. All of my health issues disappeared and I am now studying to be a nutritional therapist and will hopefully be attending vegan chef school to become an Ayurvedic chef. I can’t thank you for how life changing your book has been for me! Aside from my eating, I’m a kind lifer by volunteering my time at PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) and during my brief stay in Denver, I volunteered my time to Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary.

As far as fun things to do with family and friends: your son would surely enjoy ice skating in Millennium Park or at the Maggie Daley center (they’re essentially in the same park). It’s a stunning view of the city from there. The Garfield Conservatory is gorgeous and a nice walk on Michigan Avenue is always beautiful.

Paciugo has coconut milk based gelato for dessert! Swirls cupcakes are vegan and there’s a Sprinkles (vegan red velvet) right off of Michigan Avenue if you’re in that area. Oh, and if you’re in Wicker Park, The Wormhole is a great little coffee shop with video games and…vegan twinkies and such!

    Kind Lifer,

  • Tiffany

So excited for you! Have to also add a vote for Native Food & Sultans in Wicker Park, and the Chicago Diner…I miss those milkshakes. And Allyu Spa in River North if you’re looking for a beautiful and mindful place to relax.
I’m in Durham, NC these days but Chicago is such a special city. Enjoy!!

  • Perla A Ledesma

Hi Alicia! Glad you’ll be in town. Love your blog and currently reading “The Kind Mama.” Took your advice and had a smooth pregnancy and quick unmedicated delivery. I’m excited to use your recipes for my son’s first solids!

Karen’s on Green is one of my favorite spots. I would love the opportunity to meet you in person. I’m available after 4pm during the week, and anytime on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Amour de la Terre

Hello Alicia, I’m Alisha! 😉 So exciting you are heading to Chicago, and you are correct—we are fortunate to have a great veg scene! I could list about a dozen restaurants that are amazing and I’m glad many of my faves have already been mentioned! A new fun addition to the great Chicago vegan scene is Amour de la Terre, an all vegan shoe boutique my husband and I just opened in August. Besides working with only all vegan companies, each company we partner with must be eco-conscious and produce ethically—the first of it’s kind in the country! We have items for women, men and kiddos too! (Bear would look so cute in a pair!) Besides showing people that fashion can be just as amazing while being more earth, animal and people friendly, we are also hoping to inspire others to live a more “kind life.” We have free pamphlets and DVDs at our door for customers curious about the veg lifestyle, and are planning on hosting fun events such as documentary viewings and presentations. In the very least, we hope that people seeing the word “vegan” on our window leads them to ponder what it’s all about. We would be incredibly honored to meet you and we welcome you to use our boutique space for a meet-up while here (we can cater in!) or just to stop and say hello!

  • cperel6196

Hi Alicia, my husband and I would love to meet you and your family. We live in the suburbs of Chicago, but its only a train ride away :)

I’ve heard great things about Chicago Diner.

I have been on a kind diet for about 7 years now almost 8, and I feel much better about myself!!

    Hope to meet you soon,
    Peace and love,

  • cperel6196

    Any day, any time :)

  • Ashleigh

I would love to meet you in my hometown, Chicago!! There are SOO many veg friendly restaurants in this city :) My fav spots are Chicago Diner (Their Ruben and Cookie Dough Milkshakes are out of this world), Native Foods Cafe (Yummy Chik’n Sandwich and Sweet Potato Fries), and Pick Me Up Cafe (to die for Buffalo tofu wrap and/or French Toast w/ a side of cheeze fries of course!). Hope to meet you and your family, xx ashleigh

  • Kim

This is fantastic! I would love to meet you and your family. I just recently started IIN, loved your talk. My passion is all about the healing power of food. I am thrilled to be in this program and to meet and surround myself with like minded individuals and help people. I live the Kind Life by purchasing as local as possible. I walk or take public as much as possible. I volunteer at a kids program teaching them how to choose and eat healthy by making recipes with them. I use all eco products at home, even the paint on my walls and floors. My favorites to eat, MANA Food Bar, Chicago Raw, Owen + Alchemy, love Upton’s (around the corner from me), Green City Market, Native Foods, Green Zebra, Karyn’s. Hope to see you!

  • Jamie

Hi Alicia! I live a kind life in Chicago by volunteering at PAWs, a great no-kill animal shelter in Lincoln Park. I also gave up eating meat several years ago and do not purchase products that I know are harmful to animals (ex. real leather, down-filled pillows, etc.). My favorite place for veg food is Chicago Diner in the Lakeview neighborhood.

I have been a fan of yours for so long and would love to meet up!

  • Jean-Michel Bergeron

Speaking of new movie, when are we going to be able to see Alicia’s movie “Gods Behaving Badly”? It seem quite watcheable…

  • Stacey

Any interest in taking a day trip to Lake Geneva, WI? Only an 1 1/2 from Chicago. You and your Family would love eating at Simple cafe!

I would also love to share with you my organic perfume line at our store 281 Sheridan Springs and see our Architectural Salvage warehouse.

Would love to show you around.

    All the best,

  • Don Pepe Paco

That luck the people of Chicago!
I wish that you will go someday to Spain!

  • Kyle Bergsbaken

So glad to have you in the city. My family and I are big fans of your cookbook and recipes. Today I actually had the pleasure of saying hello to you at the baggage claim post our LAX flight. So kind of you to say hello… I grew up on a dairy farm with pretty hard midwest food values, but since moving to chicago I have been eating in more vegan ways. Simple midwest farm boy here, who eats at the great CHICAGO DINNER, where they create midwest dishes with vegan backing. Would love to hear your ideas and insight or shifting form traditional dairy to vegan alternatives. Let me know, [email protected]

  • Clarissa Havelin

Alicia, I would love to meet up with you and fellow kind lifers! I’m sorry I’m a bit late to this conversation! Some great Chicago veg places are Karyn’s (cooked, raw, on the green) restaurants, the Chicago Diner, and Native Foods (think they have this in California, too!) Also, you must check out Amitabul (a Korean vegan restaurant) on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. It’s this tiny little place, but totally awesome! Before you leave Chicago you have to try their date tea made with fermented dates! AMAZING! Sunday, February 1st would be best for me! :)

  • Drew Dowell

This is so fun! I would love to meet up with you, your family and other kind people of Chicago! Any of these date could work for me!

I switched to a vegan diet about a year ago after watching the documentary, Vegucated. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made! I have really enjoyed trying new delicious foods, and my husband and I have been cooking more than ever. It has been a great bonding experience! Now, after reading your book, I have been adding kinder elements to other areas of my life such as personal care and cleaning products. I know I am just at the beginning of my kind journey, but I am excited to keep going! We would like to start a family one day, so I am trying to learn how to create the kindest environment for all of us.

I have eaten at the Chicago Diner, and I do recommend it. It would be great to go back or to try any of the suggestions listed in other posts!

I’d love to meet you and your family if it’s not too late! I have been living in Chicago for more than 10 years and have been excited to see how much the vegan restaurant options have grown during that time. Some of my favorites are Karyn’s Cooked (their reuben is amazing), Native Foods, The Chicago Diner, and Karyn’s on Green for their amazing vegan cheese and charcuterie plates. There are also a lot of restaurants that aren’t strictly vegan but have good vegan options like Green Zebra, Mana Food Bar, and the vegan tacos at Takito Kitchen (which aren’t on the menu, but they are happy to make them on request).

  • Sarah Miller

Alicia, I’ve heard nothing but great things about Chicago. I visit there often, but live in Michigan. I heard a rumor that you are going to be at the Michigan VegFest in the spring. I’m hoping it is true, as I’d love to listen to you speak. Your book was a major influence on my transition from vegetarianism to veganism; so, thank you! I hope the movie goes well, as does your time in Chicago!

  • Shannon

Hi Alicia! I moved to Chicago in August, so I am still exploring all the city has to offer. However, on past trips, I went to Heartland Cafe (which Tina Fey mentions in “Bossypants”). I looovvee that place. They have great vegan/vegetarian fare, as well as options for meat eaters. I hope you enjoy your stay!

  • purecitizen

I hope that I didn’t miss the get together! So happy I saw this today. I would love to meet up with you Alicia and family, and fellow vegans in Chicago! I run the vegan website so I am always exploring the city trying new Vegan spots. I think all my favorites have been mentioned here, but another one that I love is Victories Banner in Roscoe Village for brunch. They have a fabulous Vegan menu – the eggless wonder is my favorite.

    • Ashley Gilday

Hmm I never heard of Victories Banner! So excited to try it out!

  • Danielle Bluford

Hi Alicia and Kind Lifers– Blue Door Farm stand is awesome!! Some vegan, local and really great fresh stuff! Located in Lincoln Park

Also, Green City Farmers Market is a must, as I used to volunteer there with the kids programming of the market.

Would love to meet up with everyone!

  • Sandi Swiss

Hi Alicia! It would be amazing to meet you and your family. Since I LOVE food, my favorite way to love the kind life is to show people how amazing vegan desserts are, with my company, Sandi Swiss Sweets! When I am not in the kitchen baking or having friends over for vegan dinner, I also do my best to educate the public about the truth behind where their “food” comes from by organizing events or just handing out leaflets. I almost forgot, I also have a small hand in Chicago VeganMania, an annual super fun vegan festival (this years is Oct 10) featuring speakers, a food court, vendors, and chef demos! For restaurants, I love Amitabul (vegan Korean), Urban Vegan, Karyn’s on Green and all the other places previously mentioned.

Hi Alicia! So excited you will be in Chicago this weekend! Starship Salon here! I am the proud owner of Starship Salon, a cruelty-free and vegan friendly beauty salon with a focus on natural ingredients. It was a long time goal to open a salon that was kind to people and the animals as well as offering less toxic products to the community. We would love to see you at the salon! As for yummy places to eat, we love Uptons Naturals (they are right around the corner from us), Chicago Diner, Mana Bar, Raw Chicago. If you are looking for a eco spa, Allyu Spa is amazing. If it’s not too late Starship would love to meet you and your beautiful family! My husband and I are both vegan and we now have a beautiful kind one year old vegan son named Logan. Thank you for all you do! Sincerely, Trisha Star [email protected]

You should do a meetup in LA/Santa Monica sometime at one of the vegan restaurants here! I lived in Chicago for 9 years, the vegan scene there is great. Definitely check out Chicago Diner (radical rueben & milk shakes + Bear will love their mac n cheeze). Also Karyn’s Cooked, Karyn’s Raw & Karyn’s On Green Street are awesome. Green Zebra has a really eclectic menu & Pick Me Up Cafe is not vegan but has tons of yummy vegan options (I also got their burrito). Native Foods is super yummy (but we have that in LA). I hope you guys have a great trip! xoxo Kristin (
